How to Avoid Baby Teeth Problems in Your Child

Looking for a little information on baby teeth? Good for you. The more you know about how to properly take care of your child’s baby teeth, the more likely they will be in good oral health. Your child’s teeth will normally begin to grow in between the ages of six months and 12 months. From from the very start, you will need to provide these new teeth with proper dental care.

How to avoid baby teeth problems

It is essential to try to avoid any baby teeth problems. While many people tend to think that this first set of teeth does not require as much care as permanent teeth do, this is simply not true. These first teeth lays the groundwork for the permanent ones growing in. The following is a list of suggestions that can help people avoid any potential problems with their child’s baby teeth.

Suggestion #1 — Add fluoride to a child’s diet when they are at about six months of age. Fluoride can help prevent tooth decay by hardening the tooth’s enamel and is therefore recommended.

Suggestion #2 — Brush the child’s teeth gently twice a day. Brushing a child’s teeth gently with a tiny amount of fluoride toothpaste will help remove any food particles that can potentially cause problems.

Suggestion #3 — Give the child healthy drinks and healthy foods to eat. Putting only water in their bottles and limiting their sugar intake is definitely recommended, as sugar promotes cavities.

Suggestion #4 — Transition from bottle to regular cup as soon as possible. Drinking from a regular cup is not going to cause liquid to collect around the child’s teeth like the bottle does.

Suggestion #5 — Make a dental appointment by the child’s first birthday. Having a dentist look at the child’s mouth in order to ensure that their oral health is indeed in good shape is highly recommended.
